WILD

Wild
by Cheryl Strayed

In Wild Cheryl Strayed tells the story of the pain and suffering she goes through on a very long and arduous hike along the Pacific Coast Trail (PCT) from South to North USA. As well as the treacherous conditions she’s also struggling to deal with the anger and trauma of losing her mum. And it’s a psychological journey, relating back to the most troubled periods in her life.

Having lost my dad a few years ago I could relate to her grief. But what I really took from this book was her sense of resilience and conviction and the story of her strength. I loved her intention of doing such a crazy challenge despite being completely unprepared. And I found it hugely motivating.

This summer I signed up for a 100 mile bike ride. Admittedly nowhere near as challenging as Cheryl’s hike, I was completely out of my comfort zone at my fitness level at the time and I felt that same determination. I just had the distinct desire to do something and a new-found understanding of the power of the mind. This book is a real page-turner and a great reminder that we can do anything we set out to achieve. A great holiday read and THE book for any woman who needs inspiration to plan a little adventure of her own.
